Info to help you in your selection of apparel, motorcycle and parts.

In many developed countries riders are now either required or encouraged to attend safety classes in order to obtain a separate motorcycle driving license. The wearing of protective gear is also often mandated, especially a helmet. Other protective motorcycle gear includes jackets, gloves, boots, and pants. The jackets range from nylon, to leather, and more advanced kevlar. Some jackets include heavy padding on elbows, spine and shoulder regions. Gloves are generally made of leather or kevlar and some include carbon fiber knuckle protection. Boots, especially those for sport riding, include reinforcement and plastic caps on the ankles, and toe area. Pants are usually leather, nylon, or kevlar. One company even makes a pair of jeans with kevlar reinforcement. None of these items are required by law in any state (in the U.S.), but are recommended by many of those who ride.

Motorcycle and parts or accessories can be hard to find in a lot of areas of the country. Even the ones you find may not be what you need. After all, if you live in the country, local outlets will have fewer customers and fewer items on hand. This is not an issue with our online merchants. They have a large inventory, and the convenience of shopping for your motorcycle needs online is the best way to get exactly what you want when you want it.

What type of motorcycle should you start with. I started riding over 20 years ago. At that time you could buy a motorcycle that would obtain speeds of just over hundred miles an hour. Today a person without any experience can buy a motorcycle that will reach speeds in excess of 200 miles an hour.

My number one suggestion is do not lose common sense, when you are getting your first motorcycle. I would suggest starting off with a simple, cheep, standard motorcycle without a fairing or saddlebags. The bike is very likely to fall over a few times while you are getting used to riding. You would be surprised how much damage can be done when the motorcycle falls over in your garage.

You should be able to fine a good motorcycle that runs well and has good tires and brakes, and also purchase insurance. Take the MSF (Motorcycle Safety Foundation) safety course, and get lots of practice. Ride in your local area avoid busy roads and heavy traffic. You may have some spills and most of these should be at low speeds or parking lot situations and will not injure you and may cause some damage on your motorcycle. That is why you do not want to spend $10,000 to $20,000 for your first motorcycle.

You also have to go to the Department of Motor Vehicle and take to a written test and road test to get a motorcycle endorsement to your driver license. You are now a legal motorcycle rider.

If you are lucky you'll get through the practice successfully without damaging your motorcycle. At the time you want to get the motorcycle of your dreams you may be able to sell the motorcycle you have now for what you paid.

There's nothing quite like the thrill and speed of the open road. It's the only way to travel, and for many, it's a way of life. If this is for you enjoy yourself.

What motorcycle apparel will I need? When riding a motorcycle the clothing you wear is very important for comfort and protection. The most important thing to protect is your head. I do not like the Government making laws that you must wear a helmet, when riding a motorcycle. I have ridden motorcycles on the street, off road, and raced for over 20 years. I cannot understand anyone ever riding a motorcycle with out a helmet with eye protection . If accidents happen you must protect your head, just common sense.

You should wear a good pair of motorcycle boots. The boots will help protect your legs and feet in case you fall. I do not recommend sneakers or shoes.

You should wear gloves made for riding. If you should fall most of the time your hands will be the ground or pavement. Let the gloves get the road rash, not your hands.

I recommend wearing a leather jacket and leather pants. They provide additional weather protection that normal clothing would not offer when traveling at speed. They also provide protection in case an accident happens.

There have been different studies of material if a rider of falls at the 50 MPH on asphalt. Denim will last about 4 feet before wearing through. Kevlar will last about 80 feet. Standard motorcycle quality leather will last about 86 feet.

If you ride in the winter, I recommend heated vests, heated gloves, and heated socks if it really gets cold. I would also look into the clothes that people use for snow skiing..

I realize that people ride motorcycle with almost any type of clothing even swim suits and no protection for their feet. I hope you understand the reason for my recommendations is for your protection.
